A fictitious domain/finite element method for particulate flows
The paper presents a finite element method for the direct numerical simulation of 3D incompressible fluid flows with suspended rigid particles. It uses the fictitious domain approach extending the fluid domain into the domain occupied by the particles. Although the idea for the present formulation came from the fictitious domain formulation of Glowinski et al. [J. Comput. Phys. 169 (2001) 363] ...
متن کاملLagrangian Finite Element Analysis of Newtonian Fluid Flows
A fully Lagrangian nite element method for the analysis of Newtonian ows is developed. The approach furnishes, in e ect, a Lagrangian implementation of the compressible Navier–Stokes equations. As the ow proceeds, the mesh is maintained undistorted through continuous and adaptive remeshing of the uid mass. The principal advantage of the present approach lies in the treatment of boundary conditi...

Stabilized Finite Element Method in Particulate Two-phase Flows Stabilized Nite Element Method in Particulate Two-phase Ows
A stabilized nite element method for the solution of particulate two-phase ows is presented. In this method the solution of the volume fractions is de-coupled from the solution of the momentum equations. For the solution of the volume fraction SD method with discontinuity capturing operator is used. The functionality of the method is shown in two example cases.
متن کاملAnalysis of Variance-based Mixed Multiscale Finite Element Method and Applications in Stochastic Two-phase Flows
The stochastic partial differential systems have been widely used to model physical processes, where the inputs involve large uncertainties. Flows in random and heterogeneous porous media is one of the cases where the random inputs (e.g., permeability) are often modeled as a stochastic field with high-dimensional random parameters. To treat the high dimensionality and heterogeneity efficiently,...
